In early 2004, after more than 30 years in “corporate America” in a variety of sales and marketing positions, I joined LTS LeaderBoard as one of the original dozen franchise partners of this innovative marketing services company. Our principal focus continues to be the enhancement of charity golf tournament fundraisers. During the past five years we have helped to organize and run more than 125 events throughout southeastern MA, Cape Cod and the Islands and have helped our clients raise more than $8 million dollars.
After the first two years with LeaderBoard I started to appreciate that the tournament golf season in New England was limited to the six months from May through October. Golfers will venture to the Cape in December, weather permitting, for a round on the local track, but charity organizers planning their annual events will avoid the “off-season” where weather conditions can play such an important role.
Having been introduced to the modular putting green technology being promoted by Tour Links (Tampa, FL) and following the lead of one of our franchise partners, I purchased 18 holes of Mini Links and introduced Metro Mini Links in late 2005. Since then we have run more than 25 golf-themed events at locations in the northeast including school gyms, major trade shows, Boston high rise offices, hotel ballrooms and local country clubs. The complete portability of Mini Links coupled with the demand for golf events year-round have combined to create a new business opportunity that dovetails perfectly with my background in sales and marketing, my passion for the game and my desire to work with non-profits to meet their fundraising goals.
To meet the growing demand for our events the MML Team has grown in the past year with two key additions to our staff. Nick Richard has become my Manager of Events
and resident computer genius. With his background in graphic design he is now responsible for creating the great look of our AV presentations. Our newest staff member is Kim Ricci who will be responsible for the launch of our exciting new interactive audience response system from Global [Interactive] Events (Ontario, CAN). It is the same technology that you have seen on TV quiz shows when they poll the audience and has great potential to enhance corporate sales meetings, teambuilding exercises, trade show presentations and much more.
Now with the recent addition of a 50’ Long Putt Green (see the video on a putt for $10,000) based on the same modular Tour Links technology and a BirdieBall Chipping Contest, the future looks extremely bright as we deliver Metro Mini Links to other non-profits and corporate accounts alike. It’s true when we say with Metro Mini Links, “We bring the tournament to you.”
